From friday till sunday afternoon a considerable buzz was found at the Copenhagen Fintech Lab which hosted 2017’s edition of Startup Weekend FinTech. The 80 participants were divided into 10 teams and had in 54 hours been intensively working on developing brand new ideas into sustainable solutions. During the course of the weekend, the teams had access to coaching and mentoring from both entrepreneurs and specialized consultants. On sunday afternoon they were ready to do their final presentation in front of a panel of 4 formidable judges. The panel consisted of Ken Villum, CEO at LunarWay, Susanne Brønnum, Group Executive VP of Nets Danmark, Stefan Olofson, Investment Manager at SEB Capital, and Thomas Krogh Jensen, CEO of Copenhagen FinTech.
The intensity rose as the 4 judges critically assessed the 10 teams’ presentations on strategy, customers and business models. Each team received 5 minutes to pitch their solutions and in turn the judges had 5 minutes for Q&A. Following all teams presentations, the judges would withdraw to vote and reward 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
First place was awarded to the group behind PayOf, a solution designed to help 25-35 year olds pay down debt by getting advice from a bot. Second place was awarded to Save Suzan, a solution based on pensions and savings, while third place went to Price Insight, an app with the purpose of granting transparency in investment processes. As a prize the top three teams have been offered a number of seats at Copenhagen FinTech Lab for a specified period of time. Who knows, maybe Startup Weekend Fintech has facilitated the birth of a new fintech startup.
