Investing sustainably with DoLand

Investing sustainably with DoLand
Where we place our money, therefore, is an important factor for inspiring positive change. That's why we're seeing greater emphasis placed on sustainability across many industries.
But for small-scale investors in the Nordics, green investing was an area seemingly neglected. That was before the emergence of DoLand, a sustainable investing platform striving for financial inclusion.
DoLand offers nuance in sustainable investing
In the words of the founder & CEO, Jakob Lage Hansen:
- We aim to be an active movement that empowers everyone to make a real impact through new ways of investing. We've constructed a digital investment platform, where people can express their views on 10 sustainability themes.
Themes so far include, but are not limited to: electric cars and technology, sustainable food, innovative healthcare, green transformation, sustainable energy, gender equality and diversity, and more.
As with traditional investment platforms, DoLand assesses risk profile, finances and economic situation to provide investment recommendations. The added benefit offered, is tailoring the advice to meet sustainability preferences:
- In general, it's not possible for a retail investor with €75 to go into a normal bank, and have their preferences for sustainability as part of the discussion. We felt that everybody should be able to have a say with their money, says the founder & CEO.
Buy a percentage of a share
DoLand offers fractional shares and no minimum fees that secures a low barrier to entry. Less than one full share of equity is referred to as a fractional share, and this form of equity enables greater portfolio diversification:
- Fractional trading enables our customers to buy 0,1%... or 0,2%... or 0,01 - whatever fraction is needed to suit your purposes. That means if you come with 500 DKK, you can get as perfect a recommendation as if you brought 500,000 DKK, says Jakob Lage Hansen.
Fractional shares are common in the US, but quite unusual in Denmark, according to the founder & CEO.
Biggest accomplishment: The first of it's kind in the Nordics
One of DoLand's proudest accomplishments is being the first in the Nordic market with a low barrier to entry for sustainable investments, says Jakob Lage Hansen:
- DoLand is the first platform in the Nordics to allow people to invest a minimum of 500 DKK to make their personal preference reflected in their investments.
- We are also super proud that this has mobilized more people and assets to be invested with positive impact. 40% of our investors have never invested before, and close to half are women.
In addition, DoLand's partnership with Matter, who provide ESG data on investments, has enabled the platform to offer CO2 data, and other impact metrics on customers investments:
- We're proud of offering personalized impact metrics enabled by our partnership with Matter. Each individual gets an overview of their CO2 footprint, says the founder & CEO.
Aims to expand in 2022
To realize the vision of activating a movement, and empowering everyone to make a personalized, real impact through new ways of investing, DoLand has five tracks for 2022, according to Jakob Lage Hansen:
- Our first focus is to mobilize customers and assets - marketing and partnerships are a part of that. Second focus is to introduce additional features and products, so people can invest more. Thirdly, we want to focus on strategic partners and a subscription model for alternative revenue streams. The fourth focus involves raising the bar for the impact delivered by the investments, and finally, we have a continuous focus on funding our journey.
